Sort by colour
Three piles: darks, lights and whites. New, bright things go in on their own the first time, because that's when colour runs.
Read the label
The little tub shows the highest temperature the fabric can take. 30 means 30. Not sure what a symbol means? Use the decoder.
Use less detergent than you think
More soap doesn't mean cleaner clothes. It means stiff clothes and a sad machine. Follow the dose on the pack for a normal load, and go lower if your load is small.
